About the Program

The Environmental Sciences Program prepares students to address one of society’s greatest challenges, namely preservation and stewardship of the natural world. The curriculum synthesizes courses in the natural sciences, engineering, and social sciences important for understanding the environment, the impact human activities have on it, and ways for mitigating and managing such impacts. Via an interdisciplinary curriculum, majors learn integrative and quantitative approaches for solving environmental problems spanning local to global scales, such as air and water pollution, biodiversity, climate change, energy, human health, and sustainability. The program provides preparation for employment in environmentally oriented firms, companies, and organizations; training for graduate study in diverse environmental disciplines; and pre-professional development for students interested in law, business, or medicine.

The Environmental Sciences Program is administered by the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and is more broadly affiliated with the Environmental Science, Engineering and Policy Program.
